The students and teachers at the Gifted and Talented Class, Sixth Grade of Dung-Guang Elementary School composed a website called “A Symphony of Water and Green-Rebirth of Caogong Canal and New Fragrant Waterfront Kaohsiung”. The website won Platinum Award at Cyber Fair 2007, turning Dong-Guang Elementary School the only school in Kaohsiung City that won Platinum Award in that year. This is indeed a precious honor.
The theme of the website is Caogong Canal, the mother river of Kaohsiung Plain. The team researched on the current status of the canal and the campaign that vows to revive the canal. The website offers detailed introduction to Kaohsiung City’s efforts to make the downstream of the canal and the wetland ecological corridor beautiful and impressive.
Three teachers, namely Yang Yilun, Jheng Wenjie, and Pan Chaoying lead 26 students in the G&T class and the team spent 18 weeks on producing the website. With the assistance and leadership of Mr. Jheng Wenchien, Director of Feng Shan Culture and History Studio, the team visited the banks of Caogong Canal, and investigated in the pollution and treatment of Caogong Canal. The team received detailed explanation and collected comprehensive information, and found solutions to revive the canal. In the end, through field trips, the team discovered some recent changes in Kaohsiung City that makes the place better, cleaner and prettier.
The students and teachers worked their way through the composing of the website. For multiple times, the team conducted field research, rain or shine. The team members overcame all difficulties attempting to explore the research and they embraced challenges. In the process, teachers and students were really devoted, so their website design was successful.
It is expected that the website will remind its visitors of the importance of protecting Caogong Canal and the wetland. After all, we have only one Earth, and it takes a long time for everyone to create a pleasant environment for the Kaohsiung citizens. The awareness of environmental protection shall be raised so that the mountains and rivers will be there for the generations to come, and people living on the land will enjoy promoting their lives forever. |
